Heidi Arens

Family Nurse Practitioner FNP

Institute for Functional Medicine Certified Practitioner IFMCP

Heidi's Story

Heidi Arens received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Point Loma Nazarene University in 2008. For 11 years, she worked at Scripps Health in San Diego, California, caring for patients with various cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. She has also worked extensively as a float nurse for nine hospitals in multiple specialties in San Diego and Denver.

She has embraced numerous leadership roles throughout her career, working with interdisciplinary teams to improve clinical outcomes, care delivery, and patient satisfaction. Although caring for people during an acute health crisis is incredibly rewarding, Heidi saw a need for a different approach that could help people address the root cause of illness and empower them to take an active role in transforming their health. This inspired Heidi to become a Family Nurse Practitioner and specialize in functional/integrative medicine. Heidi received a Master of Science in Nursing from Azusa Pacific University in 2017 and is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner. She has done further training with the Institute for Functional Medicine and specialty training in IV therapy, ozone therapy, and prolozone therapy. This training has equipped her with an entirely new set of tools to help identify the underlying causes of disease or dysfunction and partner with patients to restore and maintain health.

For several years, she has been working in integrative and functional medicine, helping patients with cardiometabolic dysfunction, gastrointestinal disorders, SIBO, food intolerances, acute and chronic infections, various environmental exposures, thyroid dysfunction, autoimmune diseases, and hormonal imbalances. She has a strong clinical interest in helping mold-related illnesses, chronic fatigue, and mitochondrial dysfunction.
